TAG it easy - How we produce your license labels

Label production

For the production of your labels we rely on the digital printing process of PrintoLUX.

The advantages for this are obvious:

  • One process for many different materials
  • Highest industrial grade durability of the markings
  • Flexibility & short production times
  • Almost no restrictions in display (texts, graphics, logos, 2D codes, barcodes, etc.)
  • Multicolor without additional costs

Basically, by using labeling software, we are able to process a wide variety of data formats. In the vast majority of cases, however, an Excel file is used as the database. You can find more information about print data in the following section.

1.

Print Data Preparation

After we receive your order and print data, the first step is to check your data and make any necessary adjustments for further processing.

The print templates are stored so that they can be assigned to your company, enabling us to process follow-up orders even faster.

2.

Label Printing

After a short cleaning and pretreatment of the label blanks, all contents are printed in one step. Depending on the scope of the order, different sized marking systems are used. The special ink used is water-based and environmentally friendly.

The ink is still washable directly after printing. This allows us to conserve resources and reuse the raw material in the event of a misprint.

3.

Thermal Hardening (burn-in)

The freshly printed labels are finally "burned in" in an industrial oven. During this process, the water content of the ink used evaporates and the color pigments penetrate the license plate material.

Through this thermal hardening we achieve the enormously high durability of our hallmarks.

4.

Quality check & shipping

In the last step before shipping, your order is thoroughly checked. Here we pay attention to the completeness of the order, but especially to the quality of the labels as well as their durability.

With your delivery you will receive a completed quality check from the inspecting employee.

Print Data

To produce your labels, we need your "print data". Sounds simple and logical at first, but quickly becomes a question and complicated, especially for first-time orders. To ensure that we speak the same language, we provide you here with some useful information on this topic and answer the most frequently asked questions.

Important:
You are also welcome to contact us directly on the subject of data handling. Either by phone +49 6233 6000 915 or by e-mail at info@printolux.com.

What do We need from you?

In a nutshell, we need to know what your labels should look like and what content needs to be printed. All the information you have is useful to us. These can be photos of existing label, dimensional drawings, sketches or other documents. Also helpful are specifications for fonts, font sizes, colors, graphics/logos, etc.

If necessary, documentation or guidelines are already available. For example, are you a machine or plant builder for automotive manufacturers? Whether Audi, BMW, Daimler or VW, almost every manufacturer relies on its own labeling specifications, often for different trades.

Static or variable content?

For the content to be printed, we distinguish between static and variable content. Static is all information that does not change even if there are several identifiers of one variety. This can be address data, a company logo or warnings.

Variable, on the other hand, is all information that changes while the indicators remain the same. Examples are serial numbers, measurement data, hazard pictograms or barcodes and 2D codes with different contents. In the automotive sector in particular, the use of QR and DataMatrix codes is a widespread standard.

What file formats do we need?

The choice of file formats is usually where most questions arise. One thing first: Most of the time our customers need labels with variable content. For this purpose, we usually use an Excel file as a database. This saves us time in setting up the system and reduces the susceptibility to errors to a minimum. Whenever possible: Please provide us with Excel data.

If image files are used, please send us files with as high a resolution as possible, ideally even vector data.

Download Excel-Template

If possible, please use our Excel sample template and fill it with your data. In this template, you will also find further information on the preparation of your print data and can provide us with additional details on the license plate design. Therefore, in addition to the "Print data" spreadsheet, please also note the "Additional information" and "Instructions" tabs.

Especially for follow-up orders this table is very useful, because we simply have to link your existing templates with the new data table.
